India’s First International level women bodybuilder – Karuna Waghmare

Miss India Fitness Physique Karuna Swami heads to 46th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in China

                Miss India Fitness Physique 2012 Karuna Waghmare Swami, who won top honours at the recent domestic event organized by the Indian Body Building Federation (IBBF) at Bidar in Karnataka, is the only indian female participant vying for top honours at the 46th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships for men, women, juniors and masters to be held between 19-24 September 2012 at Tianhe Sports Centre, Guangzhou, China, organised by the Chinese Bodybuilding Association and Guangzhou Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association.

                Karuna Waghmare Swami who has been training for the last 16 years is a professional bodybuilder and has participated in several national level competitions. She is a Yoga expert and gymnast, besides a dancer and has organized over a hundred fitness and body building training camps for women over the last few years.

                Excited at the thought of being selected from hundreds of Indian female fitness experts and female body builders for the Asian Fitness Modeling Championship, Karuna says, “It is really an honor to represent India and I hope the entire country supports and prays for me to win the Miss Asian crown in Fitness Physique and Model Physique categories. However, it was a mammoth task and I worked hard towards making my body competition-ready and fighting fit. An internationally accepted competitive sport like body building requires very professional training and trainers with international exposure to the sport and I had to train on my own with my husband Uday. I hope to set an example for many Indian women and urge them to realise the benefits of being a Fitness Model as well as Fitness Body Builders as there are so few of them here today. ”

                Karuna Swami, who recently launched her Fitness Modeling Program in Mumbai to train fitness enthusiasts, models, actresses and aspiring bodybuilders and body sculptors in the competitive sport of Fitness Modeling and Fitness Body Building, is trying to help other participants and enthusiasts get quality training and guidance. Karuna Swami who has trained extensively with Ms Marika Johansson (international celebrity trainer from the USA, founder-owner of bodybuilding.com and Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan’s personal trainer) said, “There are gymnasiums and fitness centers in India which help people achieve a certain basic degree of fitness, but Fitness Modeling is a few steps ahead. There are hardly any Indian trainers who are adequately qualified and experienced to train enthusiasts in the competitive sport. With support from my husband Uday Swami, who is himself a Fitness Modeling enthusiast and body builder, we decided to launch the Fitness at our Juhu Centre in suburban Mumbai to coach fitness enthusiasts in the finer points of Fitness Modeling.
