How Healthy Are Protein Bars ?

by | Oct 12, 2018

Everyone knows that protein is important for building muscle and repairing the body after workout. In order to maintain, you may be turning to protein bars for a quick fix. A protein bar is a nutritional supplement that provides protein and other nutrients for your body. Protein bars are a fast and convenient way to get more protein which can increase protein synthesis, muscle mass and keep fat off. If you are participating in regular exercise, then your protein intake should increase to match the new requirements. Protein bars are an increasingly popular way to increase your daily protein intake.

Protein bars include isolated protein from one or more sources; for example, milk, soy or eggs. They can include other ingredients as well that offer carbohydrates, fats, vitamins or minerals. Many weight loss plans rely on meal-replacement bars to control portions and reduce calories. Meal replacement bars typically contain high amounts of protein and fiber to help you feel fuller longer, along with many other essential vitamins and minerals to ensure well-balanced nutrition. However, you cannot rely entirely on meal replacements for your diet. Protein bars don’t supply all the nutrients and antioxidants found in fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Why protein bars?

Protein is the essential macronutrient that helps to grow, shape, repair and maintain every single cell in your body. Protein bars can aid in protein-synthesis and help your muscles in the recovery process. Muscle protein synthesis is essential for anyone exercising (or not exercising) due to it providing muscle growth, repair, and maintenance. The body transports protein to the muscle cells to fuel recovery, while recovering the fibers are rebuilt stronger and bigger than before.

Protein bars can also aid in weight loss and overall fat loss. A high protein diet may provide a greater thermogenic effect compared to a diet high in carbohydrates and fats, a greater satiety response (less of that hunger feeling) as well as the potential for weight loss, fat loss and muscle retention.

Protein bars have the advantage of convenience. They are small and can be consumed quickly by active people or professionals. Meal replacement and snack varieties provide an easy option for dieters who lack the time or resources for extensive meal planning.

Protein bars can strengthen bones. Protein and calcium work synergistically to increase bone density, most protein bars also contain high amounts of calcium. While low protein diets linked to increased bone loss.

Obviously eating protein bars alone will not help build muscle, they must supplement a good strength training workout. Study has now shown that high carbohydrate diets are in fact a chief cause of unwanted fat among bodybuilders. This makes protein bars the ideal alternative for loading up on protein and building muscle without gaining fat.

The bars do not have high amounts of cholesterol or fats and this is another important benefit of these bars. They are healthy and can be eaten by a person to fulfill his nutritional needs.
